The Moselle is wonderful.
We find it ideal for enjoying the landscape, getting active, and of course, eating and drinking.
Many of the Moselle’s sights are easily accessible from our wine village, Briedel. Briedel is quietly but centrally located in the middle
- between Koblenz and Trier
- between Cochem and Bernkastel
- between Zell and Traben-Trarbach
Downstream:
- Zell with the “Schwarze Katz” town and Collis steep path 4 km
- Bremmer Calmont via ferrata 16 km
- Beilstein medieval village 30 km
- Geierlay, Germany’s most beautiful suspension bridge 36 km
- Cochem with its old town, Bundesbank bunker, and Reichsburg Cochem 36 km
- Eltz Castle 54 km
- Koblenz with the Deutsches Eck, cable car, and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress 80 km
Upstream:
- Traben-Trarbach with Art Nouveau Moselle promenade, Christmas market, and “Underworld” 15 km
- Ürzig with the Erdener Treppchen climbing path and Roman wine press 26 km
- Bernkastel-Kues with its old town, Zylinderhaus, and Landshut Castle 36 km
- Trier, Germany’s oldest city, with the Porta Nigra, Imperial Baths, and Cathedral 72 km
Briedel is a wonderful starting point for your cycling and hiking tours.
- The Moselle cycle path directly by the water is 300 m from the winery. We offer parking spaces for your bicycles at the winery. There is a bicycle rental shop in the neighboring village of Zell.
- The Moselle ferry is only 500 m away and usually runs from May to October on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Please check the current ferry times at www.briedel.de.
- Right next to the ferry, you will also find the pier for excursion boats. You can view the departure times and route options for these passenger ships at www.moselrundfahrten.de.
- The paths of the “Briedeler Schweiz” hiking area (Moselsteig-Seitensprung) connect directly to the winery. On the opposite side of the Moselle, the “Uhu-Steig” attracts hikers.
The Briedel website and those of the two neighboring villages provide you with download options for cycling and hiking routes. In addition, there are many event tips and information on planning your vacation in Briedel and the surrounding area:
Our tips for your stay
Our tip for the Calmont via ferrata
The spectacular Calmont via ferrata should ideally be hiked in dry weather. Experience what viticulture feels like on steep slate slopes! Keep in mind that due to the special microclimate in the Calmont, the temperature can be up to 10 degrees higher. On warm days, we definitely recommend starting in the morning. We like to start the via ferrata directly at the Ediger-Eller railway bridge. There is usually convenient parking there as well.
The via ferrata has a few ladders to climb along the way and narrow sections to navigate with great panoramic views. A fear of heights can be a hindrance here; sturdy footwear is an advantage.
Our tip for Eltz Castle
If you want to visit the famous Eltz knight’s castle, you can also park in the small village of Moselkern. From there, a picturesque ancient forest path leads along the Elzbach stream to the castle. About a 1-hour walk is then rewarded with the impressive sight when the forest eventually clears and reveals the view of the castle from below.
Our tips for rainy days
On rainy days, it’s always a great idea to just unwind and relax in our cozy vacation apartments.
For those who still crave adventure, the Zylinderhaus in Bernkastel is recommended in such weather. An extensive exhibition of rare and noteworthy vintage cars and other items from the 20th century invites you on a journey through time. And when the weather clears up, the old town in Bernkastel is a beautiful place for a stroll.
Regardless of the weather, you can also spend the day visiting the Vulkaneifel-Therme in the spa town of Bad Bertrich with its sauna landscape. There is also the Moseltherme in Traben-Trarbach with a sauna. From 2027, the newly built adventure pool in the neighboring town of Zell is scheduled to open.
Food and Drink
Eating and drinking are our personal hobbies. The Moselle has a lot to offer in this regard as well. Our following list of recommendations is by no means exhaustive, as the gastronomic offerings are diverse, especially in Zell, Reil, and Traben-Trarbach. During the season, local restaurants are often very busy. Therefore, it is generally recommended to book in advance everywhere.
Every Tuesday from June to September, the traditional Briedel barbecue evening takes place on the banks of the Moselle, which is appreciated by locals and vacationers alike. 300 m (Registration: 015162764355)
